Thanks to the wonderful posts about how to use Google Forms in different ways by La Maestra Loca and CI Liftoff, I was inspired to give them a try and use them to deliver input out of the stories I asked my former fifth graders about their classmates’ cards.
I call this collection : De Problemas y Soluciones Inesperadas. I will be using these forms as a kind of independent reading that I plan for my new fifth graders to access them either in our face-to-face or virtual classes.
Each form contains a story, its glossary, reading comprehension questions, a Jam to illustrate the story, and a link to Vocaroo to respond to the story.
The stories are classified into the following categories which organically developed as we talked about each student. I will be feeding the categories as I finish working on each story. Click on the title of the story to make a copy. Please let me know how you find them and what you would like me to add/change.I hope you can use them with your students, too.
Not long ago, it used to be just normal to catch a cold over the winter or during this time of the year. A while ago, I created this story thinking of a way to address the causes, the symptoms, and the consequences of a cold in my class. Unfortunately, I never thought that what I thought could be a funny way to talk about a cold, now could be considered something sad and scary. Balancing the pros and cons of sharing it, I thought of the topic and the vocabulary we could address in our classes. The video can be used in any language and you can add the narration that you find more convenient for your classes. Maybe, just maybe, this can convince anyone who still needs convincing that it is better to be home at the moment.
Thanks for visiting my page. I will be happy to add the links to other videos I have created. Please share your experience using them with your classes.
Ricardo y la rana
My first story based on one of my student’s Card Talk, last year. Audio included.
Sometimes the easiest way to help is to promote awareness on the issues affecting others and ultimately us. This is my way to do it through making a current news comprehensible for my students, and inviting them to look for more information on ways they can also help. At the end of my adaptation, you will find the original source and a video containing my oral narration on the title section, followed by the text divided into seven slides. My plan is to present the photos from the original source and then play the audio to encourage my students to identify words or ideas they understand. How would you do it? Please leave me a comment with your ideas or suggestions.
